Vathy, the island's capital, sits around eleven kilometres north for a half-day change of scene. Panagia Spiliani above the harbor makes a worthwhile evening walk once the day's heat has broken. Ferries toward Patmos and the wider Dodecanese leave from the small port in town. The Natural History Museum of the Aegean and the Folklore Museum both sit within easy reach for a quieter day.
