Our take

Despite the Alexandroupoli address, Aura Otto sits in an olive grove at Mesimvria, 18 km west of the city, with the ruins of ancient Mesimvria-Zone 900 m away and the nearest beaches 1.8 to 2.1 km off. I would book it as a quiet, car-based base on the Evros coast: you cook in your own kitchenette, drive to the sand and head into town for dinner on the seafront. Without a car I would not stay here, and I would think twice before using it for an early flight: Dimokritos airport is 22 km away, on the far side of the city. Book only with firm dates, because every booking is paid in full and non-refundable. The perfect 10 rests on only 8 reviews.

  • ✓Walk to the ruins of Mesimvria-Zone, 900 m from the estate: excavations since 1966 have uncovered a towered wall, a temple of Apollo and a sanctuary of Demeter by the sea.
  • ✓Late check-out is not allowed and check-out is by 11:00, so on your last day pack the car early and spend the morning at Mesimvria or Dikella beach, 1.8 and 2.1 km away.
  • ✓The full stay is charged at booking, it is non-refundable, and no cancellations, changes or date moves are accepted: book only once your ferry or flight is fixed.
  • ✓For a change of beach, drive 4.5 km to Agia Paraskevi or 7 km to Agios Georgios at Makri, both on the estate's own list of nearby beaches.
  • ✓Shop in Alexandroupoli before driving out, 18 km away: the estate is built for self-catering, so breakfast and dinner are yours to plan.

Why we love it

  • Waking up in an olive grove instead of the city
  • A kitchenette and dining area in every 35 m² Comfort Double
  • Ancient Mesimvria-Zone within walking distance, 900 m away
  • Five beaches between 1.8 and 7 km by car
Why guests love it

Children of all ages are welcome, but each Comfort Double takes at most 3 people, in one king-size bed, and the estate allows no extra beds or baby cots. In practice it works for a couple with one child who can share the bed; a family of four needs two units. The 35 m² unit has a kitchenette and dining area for meals on your own schedule, and a private balcony and veranda for some outdoor space. The beaches are 1.8 to 2.1 km away, so plan to drive. Parties are banned and the estate is quiet countryside, which suits parents more than teenagers; Alexandroupoli and its seafront are 18 km off. The perfect 10 comes from 8 reviews only.
